Cost: Green building measures added approximately 1 percent to the initial cost of this home.

Photo courtesy of Kitsap Home Builders AssociationThis home received a three-star rating in its local green building program, Build a Better Kitsap.  Environmental features included special care to manage runoff and stormwater and to protect on-site wetlands.  Inside, light, airy, flexible spaces with multiple uses, a good mix of open and private spaces, and variable ceiling heights make this smaller home look larger while maintaining its resource efficiency.  The construction of this home employed advanced framing, and waste prevention and recycling measures.  Materials  included many recycled products, low-maintenance finishes, and rapidly-renewable products.  The home includes energy-efficient materials and construction measures.  Indoor air quality was promoted through the choice of finishes, and worker and occupant health were promoted through safe installation procedures and choice of less-toxic materials.  Finally, energy-efficient fixtures and appliances round out an exemplary project.
