Case Study:  
The Vista at Kensington Park

Key design elements:

Location: Dallas, Texas

Developers: HUD, Dallas Affordable Housing Coalition, City of Dallas Housing Authority

Builder or Architect: Carl Franklin Homes

Cost: Total cost to homebuyers for these homes is below $80,000.

Size: Thirteen single-family detached homes, approximately 1,250 square feet, with an attached one-car garage.

Project Year: Five homes completed in 2000.

Features:

This project is a PATH Field Evaluation and Demonstration site, built with structural insulated panel walls and roofs. The panel roofs allow a vaulted ceiling, and keep ductwork within conditioned space. According to the builder, using SIPs allows a house to be put up in about three days. The homes also feature fiber-cement siding, pigmented concrete floor finishes, tankless water heaters, and pre-finished drywall corners.
